Fragment
[p]lena gratia dominus virgo [sic] ser|| | serena deo gratias
This small rectangle is added to the medieval wrapper which is fragment (1) by thick stitching it below the front cover so that it is hidden. The invocation written on it is by the scribe of the host volume (who signs himself 'Galles'), so the binding was presumably added by him with this placed inside it as his secret prayer. Its Latin is syncopated: it lacks the 'tecum' between 'dominus' and 'virgo' needed to make grammatical sense. Its presence in Latin at the mid-point of the sixteenth century suggests the scribe was oblivious to the forthcoming Reformation on the island.
