The bifolium is made of notably thick parchment, which makes it suitable for its reuse, a the cover to this holster book. However, that host was slightly taller than the bifolium on its side and so the fragment was extended by stitching on patches of parchment of irregular size. Underneath one is fragment (2).
Text identified by Tamara Atkin, who notes that it appears in, Jean de Mandeville, Le livre des merveilles du monde, ed. Christiane Deluz (Paris: CNRS, 2000), pp. 226–9 [ch. XII], an edition of the insular version, a subset of which was copied in continental French, but having (as Deluz herself makes clear), an especially complicated textual tradition.
