Lost Manuscript

Babel MS 40

Only the thinnest of fragments survive, with no complete words, making identification of the text impossible. However, as the two fragments show the same script and appear in twin bindings of the two volumes of a printed edition, identification of the two as coming from the same source is secure. If these fragments share a provenance with the strip from an indenture which is now Colchester: University of Essex, Harsnett H.c.8 ii, then the origins of that from an abbey would suggest that this formed part of a monastic record or perhaps a cartulary.
